Interview from WC Zine # 3
An interview from the Brazilian fanzine WC, issue 3. In the post at the official Anti-Cimex facebookpage it says that it is from 1987, but the interview itself is way older. 1984 to be exact, cause in one answer they are talking about their new drummer Patrik who did just one gig in 1984. Answered by Charlie. And since it is in Portugese, you'll find a translation here below made by Jonte Palmblad.
ANTI-CIMEX began in September 1981 with Nillen (vocals), Joke (guitars),Jonsson (bass), Charlie (drums). After rehearsing for three
months we decided to make an EP with the songs "Svaveldioxid//Heroindöd/Drömmusik and Anicimex". We made 500 copies. After this Nillen left the band, Jonson started singing and Cutting became our bass player. Then we made the songs "Progeria of Power/Krossa NRP/I Skuggan av ett Krig". In February of '83 Cutting left the band and Konrad joined, then we went to the studio to record our EP "RAPED ASS": I think this to be our best record. In the start of '84 we changed bass player one more time, Sixten joined and we recorded our third EP "VICTIMS OF A BOMB RAID". Now I started playing bass and we have a new drummer: Patrick.
FROM WHERE DO YOU GET THE IDEAS FOR YOUR SONGS?
-Charlie: We get the ideas from front pages, newspapers and from things that are happening in the world.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF PEACE, RELIGION AND WAR?
-Charlie: Peace is a really good thing; Religion is just bollocks; War is the worst thing that has happened in the world.
WHY THE NAME ANTI-CIMEX?
-Charlie: In the beginning we had rats in our rehearsal room and had a rat-poison called ANTI-CIMEX.
AND THE MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
-Charlie: DISCHARGE, BLACK SABBATH and some other bands.
DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE THE SWEDISH POLICE?
-Charlie: Yes, they always want to take us for the smallest things.
DO YOU HAVE PLANS ON MAKING A LP?
-Charlie: We have plans to make a LP as soon as we have some money.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANARCHY?
-Charlie: We think it's the best thing for the world.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY IN BRAZIL?
-Charlie: Yes, it would be a lot of fun playing in Brazil, but it's very far from Sweden.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE BRAZILIAN BANDS?
-Charlie: I think the Brazilian bands are very good but it's the language that makes it not so good for us to listen to. I think it would be better if the bands sang in English.
ARE THE SWEDISH PUNKS UNITED? THERE ARE NAZI-SKINS
-Charlie: The Swedish punks are united I think! But it could be better. Here are a lot of nazi-skins but they don't harass us.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BANDS WHO CHANGE THEIR STYLE, LIKE DISCHARGE?
-Charlie: I think it's up to these bands, if they want to change style. The most important is that they like what they are doing.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW?
-Charlie: We like listening to bands like DISCHARGE, VARUKERS, DISORDER, BLACK SABBATH, RIISTETYT, CRAMPS, ALAN VEGA, METALLICA, Finnish HARDCORE, Brazilian HARDCORE and a lot more.
SAY SOMETHING FOR THE BRAZILIAN PUNKS
-Charlie: continue playing HARDCORE. Jonsson wants to say hello to all of you!

Interview from Toinen Vaihtoehto # 7
An interview with Cliff from 1991 in Finnish from the zine Toinen Vaihtoehto. Yra who sent it to me also have had it translated by a friend of him named Herq. So two thumbs up for both of you :-) You can read the whole interview in English here below. (Don't blame me if it looks wierd)
TELL SOME HISTORY FIRST?
-ANTI-CIMEX STARTED 1981 and has so far made 3 ep's + one 12 inch. First ep was called "Anarkist Attack", next one "Raped Ass", then "Victims Of a Bombraid" and 12' lp is called ANTI-CIMEX, released by english label DISTRRAIGHT at 86. Four years later we changed guitarist and released first full-length, "Absolut", which was released by Swedish label CBR. '86 our band made tour in England with AGONY (Swedish trash band). Line-up at the moment is: Charlie - drums, Freke - vocals, Cliff - guitar and Conrad - bass. Cliff came to the band in '86 after he had left from his former band BLACK UNIFORMS, which by the way released LP called "Faced of Death".

SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE NEW LP?
-The name is "Absolut Anticimex" and it includes 10 new studio songs. CD version has 17 songs, because it also includes the 12' lp. We recorded the album in 5 days in Sweden at April '90. 10 songs might seem short for punk/hc album, but songs are quite long. I don't know how good is the distribution with our record nowadays, but you can order it from CBR.

HOW YOU GOT A CONTRACT WITH CBR LABEL?
-ANTI-CIMEX didn't have any contract at the time when I joined the band but we knew that here and there were interest towards us. I decided to give a call to CBR (the biggest underground hc/death metal label in Sweden) and told them what kinda music we play and the guy on the other side of the phone was excited. They paid all the recording costs but we didn't sign any contract so we just make one record at a time to CBR because we are willing to accept new and better offers...

HOW DO YOI LIKE SLAYER?
-What a question! I have their first "Show No Mercy" lp which I like but I don't know anything about Slayers new stuff because I barely listen to that kinda music. Slayer is anyway original and brutal music.

DO YOU RECEIVE A LOT OF MAIL?
-I really don't know, because in the lp there is no contact address, so it's propably the label who gets all the mail. Charlie (drummer) also gets some amount of mail for some reason, for example interviews, gig offers etc. It's very hard to answer to a huge amount of mail. With my former band (Black Uniforms) I answered to 60-80 letters a month for three years and I had to quit my work as well just to have time to answer all the mail, but in the end it was worth it.

DO YOU BELONG TO CHURCH? YOUR OPINIONS ABOUT RELIGION?
-None of us belongs to church anymore. Religion only causes confusion. We have nothing to do with any religion. We are all food of the worms.

DO YOU HAVE PLANS TO MAKE ANOTHER ALBUM?
-Yes, we already have 5 or 6 songs ready and there's been talk about going to studio at the end of May this year, but nothing's been decided yet. ANTI-CIMEX hasn't rehearsed since last July, but we will start any day. Unfortunately I cannot give any names of the songs neither any release date of album yet. But it's for sure that second LP will come if anything major doesn't happen.

I HEARD THAT YOU (Cliff) MOVED RECENTLY. DOES THIS HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE BAND?
-Nowadays I live in Göteborg and Anti-Cimex is from this city so everything is much easier now with the band. I used to live in Malmö and will propably soon move back. Freke also lives far away from here and we don''t practise more than 3 weeks per year. We only rehearse before going to studio or before gig, otherwise travelling expenses would too much and this way we don't get too fed up with each other.

DO YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE READ TOO MUCH LYRICS WHEN TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING BAD?
-Yes, especially the critics. If lyrics are personal to the one who wrote them some people can't figure out what's it about. Some people for example think that it's bad thing if punk/hc band doesn't sing about war, radiation, hamburgers etc. On the last two ANTI-CIMEX record there were no lyric sheet, you can still hear that the songs deal with disappointment, hate and stuff like that. Later we're gonna publish a booklet with lyrics and pictures and so on.

DO YOU KNOW WHO'S DARIO ARGENTO? DO YOU LIKE HIS MOVIES?
-Yep, I know ARGENTO and his films like SUSPIRIA, PHENOMENA, OPERA etc. His movies doesn't quite suit with my taste, too deep stuff. Instead this other Italian director LUCIO FULCI'S movies are the most enjoyable things to watch. I really love horror/splatter videos and I have them some 150-200.

IN THE END TELL US HOW THE NEW ALBUM HAS SOLD OR ADD SOMETHING ELSE?
-From what I've heard we are the best selling group on CBR. During the first week "Absolut" sold something like 3000 copies, but I don't know much about the situation now. And then also, that sticker on the cover of "Absolut" wasn't our idea but a mistake from the label. Thanks for the interview!
